Transcon Hotshot by factorone33 Transcon Hotshot by factorone33
I took a friend of mine out railfanning in the KC area once, as he lives in Leavenworth, KS. His and my inherent interest in firefighting also translates into trains, and thus he tagged along. Apparently, his ears are better than mine, as he heard this manifest a ways off before I even realized it.

This guy was smokin' fast. No sooner than I heard the horns from a distance, he'd rounded the turn just down the track and was movin' straight at me. And he had it all the way in Run 8.

BNSF C44-9W #4163 roars through the crossover and down Main #1 from Main #2, with another C44-9W and a manifest on the BNSF transcon, Emporia Sub, Shawnee, KS.

Are those searchlight signals? :la: I've got some pictures that I may post of a signal that I shot close to my house, I want to see if anyone knows if it's a searchlight. It never seems to change aspects, though. :bucktooth:

Yef dey are serchlites. :B

:lmao:

Yeah, that bridge is still in heavy use. It's original ATSF hardware from the early ATSF transcon days. There's more just like it further down the line, pretty much all the way to Wichita (some newer ones have been changed in and out, but a large majority of the old ones are still in place).

Awesum. :bucktooth:

Yeah, I'll post up at least one pic of my signal, just to see what everyone thinks. Right after I post the pic I took today of Flagg Coal 75! :la:

Any idea what the reporting marks are on those refers? There's an industry not even 5 minutes from my house on NJ Transit's Pascack Line serves by Norfolk Southern that gets Refers that I know come from BNSF territory. I wouldn't be surprised if that's them.

Also, I was going to say something in the comments, but this is especially for you. Lots of depth, and lots of heat distortion. Eat your heart out.

I'm not sure, I can check my other shots and see if I got them. What should I be looking for?
