Holding in Olathe

Description

The Fort Scott Sub is former Burlington-Northern territory, and snakes down the eastern edge of Kansas from central KC to points in Texas. It mostly runs coal and some auto trains from Chicago and the plants in northeast KC down to Dallas and points west, and the empties back north. Some portions of the line in central Johnson County are elevated 20+ feet above the surrounding grade in order to minimize grade crossings and improve average speed; this is part of that elevated portion.

Here, a unit coal drag headed for a utility in the south sits idle on Main #1 in Olathe, KS; this is the tail end with three units for distributed power: BNSF SD70MAC # 9993, C44-9W #5677, and ES44AC #6055.
